The ABC Birthday Party Lesson Plan

Before reading the story

1. Show the cover of the book to the students and ask them:

 a. When is your birthday?

b. How do you usually celebrate your birthday?

 c. What do you need to organise  a      succeful birthday party?

 d. Whose birthday party is it?

 e. What kind of presents do you think 'A' will get?

2. Revise letters of the alphabet with flashcards and/or play the Spin the Wheel Game.

While Reading the story

1. Read the story once for students' pleasure and ask them to remember the present thet liked the most.

2. Read the sstory a second time and ask students to note down the presents that begin with the first letter of their name.

After reading the story

1. Organise a mini play. Each student represents a letter and gives presents to 'A'.

2. Write and decorate the invitation for A's birthday party.

3. Play some or all of the games suggested in the Games Section

Add your Personal Touch!

1. Students act out the story again.  However, this time they bring items from home as presents to 'A'. If we want to personalise even more, we ask them to bring items that begin with the first letter of their name and/or surname.

2. Students use their name to make an acronym with presents they would like to make to 'A'.

3. Write the sequel of  story in a new setting. For example, it could be 'The ABC birthday party at the Zoo' .  'Z' is having a party at the zoo. All the animals Aligator, Bear, Crocodile etc bring their presents.

If you or your students havae more ideas on a new sequel of the ABC Birthday party, please leave a comment!
